Your wedding is a monumental, beautiful day filled with love, laughter, and the joyous celebration of your union. While the ceremony marks the official beginning of your journey together, the reception is where the party truly comes alive! From heartfelt toasts and tearful speeches to the infectious energy of the dance floor, the reception is your chance to paint the town red!

Wedding Entertainment Tips

The wedding entertainment you select will make or break the rest of your wedding day, so here are a few tips to help you through the minefield.

Budget

Budget: One of the first steps in planning a wedding is establishing a budget; entertainment is no exception. To create a realistic entertainment budget, consider the number of guests, the size of your venue, and the duration of the wedding.
Consider what you spend as a worthwhile investment in creating memories of your big day, while also helping solve any problems that might arise…
Remember –
Ask yourself how many guests are coming.
Do you want entertainment all day or just an hour?
Do you see a lively photo booth or an intimate cocktail lounge?
What are the venue’s limitations?

It’s essential to strike a balance between staying within budget and ensuring quality. While cost-effective options exist, compromising on professionalism and experience can backfire, leaving guests underwhelmed or, worse, disappointed.

Wedding Entertainment

Audience

Audience: Consider your guests’ diverse tastes and preferences when selecting entertainment. You want entertainment that caters to your entire audience. A death metal band might upset older people, but a blue comedian might upset young people. (extreme, I know, haha).

A versatile entertainer or a combination of acts can help keep everyone engaged and entertained. A magician is a great idea! (Well, I would say that!).
When choosing your entertainers, clearly communicate the audience demographics and what you want from them!

Venue

Venue: The venue sets the stage for your wedding, and the entertainment should complement its atmosphere and layout. A loud band in a small venue may reduce the chances of conversation between guests. If there is a DJ, can people escape if they are not up for dancing? Make sure to confirm that the chosen performers are adaptable to different venues and can adjust their setups accordingly.

Professionalism

Professionalism: Choose reputable, experienced performers with a track record of delivering high-quality entertainment. Professionalism is the cornerstone of a successful, stress-free wedding entertainment experience. Make sure you choose an entertainer who has a proven track record of performing at weddings. You can judge by client reviews & testimonials, or first-hand at wedding fairs.

You should also check that they have PLI (Public Liability Insurance) so that if anything goes wrong, they are covered. Many venues also require performers to have PLI.
A professional performer will be able to adapt to unexpected events and, of course, be punctual.

Interactivity

Interactivity: Engagement is key to great entertainment. Shifting from passive entertainment to participation fosters a vibrant atmosphere, strengthens connections, and creates lasting memories. Allowing guests to interact adds a layer of fun and personalisation, helping to break the ice with other guests.

Ideas of interactivity include –
– A Close-Up Magician – Performing up close and personal to your guests, getting them involved with the magic.
– Live Band with sing-alongs and requests
– Giant games, such as Jenga
– Photo Booths with props

Coordination

Coordination: Seamless coordination between the wedding entertainment, the venue, and yourselves is crucial. You should work with someone who will understand the flow of your day.
You will then avoid any clashes and confusion that may arise. You can, and should, share a potential timeline for your event, highlighting key moments, such as the speeches. The vendor should be prepared for minor adjustments, as we all know, nothing goes on time on the day! I always plan to stay longer than I’m booked!

Of course, I would say a magician is an excellent idea for entertainment. Please get in touch to see how I can make your wedding extra special.
